PLANNING YOUR TRIP

South Dakota or bust!

South Dakota or bust!

Today we are on the road heading off to Mt. Rushmore/Black Hills which is without a doubt one of our favorite areas.  We will be snapping pictures, taking in a few history lessons, and experiencing the majesty of the American Bison.  We can't wait to share it all with you over on Instagram - so find us over there for some Black Hills inspiration.

Apps for your outdoor life

Apps for your outdoor life

Outdoor and camping apps are abundant these days.  Apps for packing, planning, reserving, and even campfire stories are just a download away.  It's easy to get lost in the options - both Apple and Android.  We've already talked about a few of our favorites - the KOA appInstagram and Yonder.  Today we're going to go explore a few more of our favorites.

How do you plan your camping trip?

How do you plan your camping trip?

What kind of camping trip planner are you?

Do you pinpoint a destination and then find a camping spot and things to do around that destination?

Do you find the campground first?

Do you blindly pick a spot on the map and head there?

Do you rely on recommendations?

No matter how you start planning there is bound to be adventure!

KOA Care Camps Big Weekend

KOA Care Camps Big Weekend

Every May KOA hosts this great event and it's open to anyone and everyone.  The purpose of the weekend is to raise awareness about the KOA Care Camps for kids with cancer - a week where they get to go have fun and try to forget their burden of their illness.  Most importantly it's also a weekend to raise funds for these camps.  As part of the fundraising when you stay Friday night at a KOA paying full price you get to stay Saturday night for only $10 and that money goes directly to help the camps.  It's a win win for everyone!

The Family Camping Packing List

The Family Camping Packing List

The Campfire Travelers household has been CRAZY busy these past few weeks - PTO meetings, birthday parties, church ministry, flag football games, Cub Scouts, homework, tests, and projects galore!  I don't think anyone  is more excited for summer break than this mom right here!!  Luckily, this weekend we're heading out for a few days of R&R at a nearby KOA for the Care Camps Big Weekend.  On top of all the craziness, now I need to pack everyone for the trip and if I'm not organized I know the toothpaste will definitely be left at home.  Or shoes.  Or food. I knew I needed a packing list to help me remember everything.

Badlands National Park

The landscape of South Dakota is fascinating.  The Badlands are surrounded by grassland and it's not hard to forget that less than an hour west are mountains and forest.  When traveling interstate 90 you really have no clue that such a barren land exists to the south.  The Badlands National Park is one of those places that pictures don't do it justice.

Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore

There is something special about a visit to the Black Hills of South Dakota.  The rich history, the views, the buffalo, the landscape, the caves, the attractions and I could just keep going.   The cornerstone of the Black Hills has to be Mt. Rushmore and it really is more spectacular than I ever imagined.
