OK friends - grab your calendar and write down these FREE days for the National Parks this year.
I'm often asked if we have any advice for Mt. Rushmore and the surrounding area. Since we're pretty much in love with the Black Hills, you can bet I do!! And strangely, finding much specific visitor information online is hard to come by.
Today we are on the road heading off to Mt. Rushmore/Black Hills which is without a doubt one of our favorite areas. We will be snapping pictures, taking in a few history lessons, and experiencing the majesty of the American Bison. We can't wait to share it all with you over on Instagram - so find us over there for some Black Hills inspiration.
Outdoor and camping apps are abundant these days. Apps for packing, planning, reserving, and even campfire stories are just a download away. It's easy to get lost in the options - both Apple and Android. We've already talked about a few of our favorites - the KOA app, Instagram and Yonder. Today we're going to go explore a few more of our favorites.
What kind of camping trip planner are you?
Do you pinpoint a destination and then find a camping spot and things to do around that destination?
Do you find the campground first?
Do you blindly pick a spot on the map and head there?
Do you rely on recommendations?
No matter how you start planning there is bound to be adventure!
Every May KOA hosts this great event and it's open to anyone and everyone. The purpose of the weekend is to raise awareness about the KOA Care Camps for kids with cancer - a week where they get to go have fun and try to forget their burden of their illness. Most importantly it's also a weekend to raise funds for these camps. As part of the fundraising when you stay Friday night at a KOA paying full price you get to stay Saturday night for only $10 and that money goes directly to help the camps. It's a win win for everyone!
The Campfire Travelers household has been CRAZY busy these past few weeks - PTO meetings, birthday parties, church ministry, flag football games, Cub Scouts, homework, tests, and projects galore! I don't think anyone is more excited for summer break than this mom right here!! Luckily, this weekend we're heading out for a few days of R&R at a nearby KOA for the Care Camps Big Weekend. On top of all the craziness, now I need to pack everyone for the trip and if I'm not organized I know the toothpaste will definitely be left at home. Or shoes. Or food. I knew I needed a packing list to help me remember everything.
RMNP is actually celebrating their 100th birthday this year, so if you plan on visiting between now and September be sure to check out the festivities!
