Even the best of the trip planning parents (and grandparents) will still find times when the kids are bored or they need something to keep them busy while you're busy. For us, it's the point in time when the car is being unloaded and we're setting up and staking the tent. The boys have finished helping and now they're ready to explore and move on to the playground or pool or check out the rest of the campground. We end up fielding questions and losing focus.
Last week we talked about the perfect solution for my kids' postcard collections from past trips. They were so excited about their very own scrapbooks that I got to thinking about our upcoming trips this summer. Inspired by the Project Life Family card collection, I decided to create another simple scrapbook for our whole family. Packed up in this little suitcase we'll be able to take everything we need with us - the scrapbook, cards, and pen. That's it! Then we can all fill in the blanks together as we go along on our adventures!
My kids love postcards. I mean they LOVE postcards! When we are camping they always looking for postcards to buy. And I love that this is their thing. I think postcards can capture memories of a moment almost as well as a personal photo. And since our oldest son, Austin, learned to write a few years ago, I started encouraging him to turn over his newly purchase cards and jot something down about that day. Now we have memories of penmanship and adorable spelling errors included in those memories. The only downside of their obsession is that I find postcards in the most random places throughout the house and even worse they get ripped or bent from being put in a bad place. So my challenge was to create a SIMPLE solution for our old postcards and also our upcoming camping trips.
