A few weeks ago while we were hiking in Waterton Canyon we had our first Mountain House taste test which actually surprised us and turned out to be a great meal. That same trip, our boys decided against their typical PB&J's and asked if they could bring the Mountain House Macaroni and Cheesethey had picked out a few weeks previously at Cabela's. They are not adventurous eaters so we were surprised, but their excitement was worth the risk. Today we're sharing our preparation tips and what we thought about the meal:
Yesterday, we shared some of our favorite ideas for saving money when planning your next camping trip. Today, we're going to continue on the same theme and explore money saving tips once you and your family have embarked on that trip! Just like yesterday, these are all ideas that we take into consideration for our family and we hope you can find what works for you.
You know this has happened to you - you're walking through your local outdoor store and you come across a meal in a bag and immediately you're thinking astronaut food and there is NO way that could taste good! We are here to tell you that you are wrong folks!! I'll be honest, up until a few months ago we thought the same thing. There is no way. I am not that desperate. But after a few curious Google searches we found that people actually like these things!
You say cookies have nothing to do with camping? We disagree! Think camping snacks. These cookies have been coming camping with us for as long as we can remember. I originally found the recipe from allrecipes.com and with a few small modifications it was an instant hit. I always make a few dozen before camping and store them in a disposable container.
Do you ever take your slow cooker camping? We do! Because what's better than a warm meal after a long day of activity? Not much. One of our favorite slow cooker recipes is this White Chicken Chili. It's simple, filling, and a nice change from regular red chili that is always a camping staple. So go on and reserve a tent site with electric and don't forget your extension cord.
